Who we are

About Us

Ubuntu Oasis Therapy (UOT) is a counselling service for individuals, families, and couples that focuses on healing, empowering resilience, and personal growth. “Ubuntu” is an Indigenous African concept that defines pure African values of humanity, solidarity, and resilience. Foregrounding our work on those values creates a space where our clients, no matter what their situations, may be seen, heard and have their strengths amplified through their “power within” and the collective power that defines the space.

UOT is founded on the belief that each person, no matter what their challenges or situations, has unique strengths that can support them throughout their journey.

Our Support

We support clients explore their mental, and emotional well-being, and address a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflicts, grief and loss, isolation, addictions, and substance use etc. Through our counselling services, clients gain an insight, self-awareness, and copying skills leading to achieving positive outcomes of their mental health and well-being.

Our interventions emphasize a decolonial and cultural appropriate lens while also drawing from a variety of treatment modalities such as; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Strength Based and Trauma Informed Therapy, Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) etc.

Our Values

We create a safe collaborative environment for healing and personal growth. We use a variety of evidence-based interventions that focus on experiences and strength with a goal of creating a relationship that honors you, so you get the most during our sessions.

Meet the Therapist

My name is Faith Makgatu, a master’s level registered social worker deeply committed and passionate about providing a safe, compassionate, and inclusive environment for healing within my private practice. With a prideful dedication, I offer clients a sanctuary; a space where safety, warmth, and nurturing abound, fostering growth and resilience.

I am a Black and African immigrant woman. I have navigated through numerous life challenges as an immigrant, and that fuels my empathy and understanding of the struggles faced by others. I am driven to empower individuals by providing them with tools to navigate their own paths to healing and fulfillment.

I am fluent in both English, Siswati, Zulu and Ndebele. I ensure accessibility for a diverse range of clients by offering therapy in their preferred language. My multilingual proficiency reflects my commitment to inclusivity and cultural competence.
